Logo’s, Series Logo’s, Emblems & Trademarks
On this page I will give a bit of explanation about what certain ‘project or product series logo’s (or emblems)’ mean. Some projects or products “belong” to a certain series I’ve/we’ve developed. These series (or the logo’s of those series) can give you a ‘quick impression’ about what type of project or product it is. I’ve created these project series (or ‘product lines’ if you like to call it that) for several reasons like for example:
- it’s a very quick and easy way for users to ‘identify’ a type, style or class of project or product.
- It’s easier for users to find more projects of the same style, type or class quickly because I’m able to ‘categorize them together’ in a way that everyone whom is familiar with the series recognizes.
- Branding and series recognition (kind of the summary of the above)
- I just think it’s cool to have our own project series/product line 😛 😉
Extravaganza Series (Also known as E-Series)

Projects and products from The Extravaganza Series also known as E-Series with the ‘E Series Flamingo Logo’ are projects and products which are ‘a bit more luxurious’ than counterparts or ‘commonly used’ variations of such a projects and products.
An example of this would be that a ‘common USB to Serial adapter’ often only uses RX, TX, RTS and DTR, while our version would then for example include all serial pins: RX, TX, CTS, DTR, DCD, DSR and RI. But our ‘Extravaganza edition’ would then for example also include LED’s for each pin (to monitor/see traffic) and it would then also have a ‘build-in’ over-current/short-circuit protection.
So basically the Extravaganza series are ‘just normal project/products’, but they are just a bit more fancier than what you might usually expect/see in a similar project or product (from XNL Future Technologies or even others).
The Extravaganza Series / E-Series projects and products often use the XNL E-Series Flamingo logo as shown here. The cursive E of the flamingo which also doubles as her wing(s), represents the E of Extravaganza. We have chosen the Flamingo as ‘mascot’ for this project/product line because we thought it was a fancy (extravaganza) looking bird with it’s long legs and often bright fancy pink color 🙂
XNL E-Academy Series

Projects and products from the XNL E-Academy Series are projects and/or products which can (and often will) be quite educational to make or experiment with. These projects could be programmable ‘robots’, ‘simple timer circuits/boards’ or anything else. Often (not always though! since this depends on the ‘difficulty level’ of the project) these projects will also include very elaborate documentation explaining what each part does or how the circuit works.
They could however also be projects which are intended to experiment with yourself, so that you’ll ‘learn while you play’. These projects often also come with a variety of experiments or example to try.
The XNL E-Academy Series often use the XNL E-Academy logo which looks like the XNL Future Technologies logo which has been ‘transformed’ into a square academic cap, also known as a graduate cap.
In the XNL E-Academy logo the letters Ft (which usually represent Future Technologies) have been replaced with the same cursive E which is also used in the E-Series Flamingo logo, where the E would usually ‘make the wing(s)’ of the flamingo. However the E in E-Academy here mainly stands for Electronics. And thus the logo basically means: XNL Electronics Academy Project or Product Line.
Overkill Edition Series

Projects and products from the Overkill edition are projects and/or products which are ‘just cool to have’ but are in most cases ‘quite overkill’ (a term which stayed with us from our ‘gamer days’). The O.E. in the Logo stands for Overkill Edition.
A great example of one of our Overkill Edition products would be the XNL LABUNO O.E. vs the regular XNL LABUNO.
The LABUNO O.E. for example has all kinds of ‘extra stuff’ build-onto the board (which the regular LABUNO doesn’t have) like:
– 3 ready to use servo headers
– Fully configurable serial pins (All serial pins can communicate with the onboard MCU)
– Serial Monitor LED’s for each serial pin
– An I2C port ‘ready to use’ for most OLED displays
– An build-in AVR/ISP etc with header and ArduinoISP status LED’s
So as you can imagine: the LABUNO O.E. is cool, it also works as a normal LABUNO, it is cool to have all those features at hand, but in 99% of the situations it’s literally “Just Overkill”. Hence the ‘series name’: Overkill Edition.
Just like the name of this project series/product line (Overkill Edition), the logo itself is also inspired on something from our/my ‘gamer days’, and that is the mini-nuke from the game Fallout®. Some of you might have already noticed, I’m quite a big fan of the Fallout® series, and this weapon (or ammo to be precise) is also “quite overkill” in the game Fallout®. And for the mini-nuke from Fallout®, the same goes as for the Overkill Edition Project/Product Line: It’s cool to have, but most of the time you don’t really need it and it would actually be overkill to use it 😉
Trivia: The E used in the Overkill Edition logo, is the same E which is used in the E-Series and E-Academy logo’s.
Sophie’s Collection

Projects, products, tutorials and posts from the Sophie Collection are often related to (pet) pigeons and/or birds.
These are often projects or products which are/where originally designed or developed specifically for ‘Sophie The Pigeon‘, our (Office) pet pigeon.
These can be tutorials on making harnesses, toys for Sophie or other items related to her. Often these projects or products are also suitable for other pigeon (or other bird) owners.
Sophie can/will sometimes also be seen briefly in our content and/or video’s as our ‘personal mascot’. Next to this she also her her own social media channels which can be found on:
Sophie’s Twitter: https://www.twitter.com/PigeonSophieXNL
Sophie’s Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/PigeonSophieXNL
Sophie’s Shorts: https://www.youtube.com/@XNLFutureTechnologies/shorts
Sophie’s 8-Bit logo is used by us either facing left or right, and sometimes even animated (as seen in the outro of her shorts). On circuit board designs (PCBs) which are designed for Sophie, you will also encounter her 8-Bit Sophie logo in monochrome (single) color.
Note: Despite that we (often) don’t use the trademark symbol (™) next to or near Sophie’s logo, it still is one of our official trademarks.
Trivia: This logo is actually in the exact colors and patterns as Sophie herself. Originally this logo was designed as a ‘8-Bit game character’ for a computer we’ve made specifically for her which can be seen in this Instagram post (tip: There are more than just one photo in this Instagram post).
System166

System166 (often shown with the word System in white and 166 in green) is the project/brand-name of my fully custom home automation system. This system was formerly designed in .NET and ran exclusively on Windows® and customized/programmed “per installation”. However since Q4 of 2025 we’ve been working hard to develop a fully user customizable Linux based version of System166.
For this purpose I’ve also built my own custom Linux distro (equally named System166). Even though the majority of the project is/will be open-source (often GPL like licenses), the name (and logo) System166 are official trademarks of XNL Future Technologies.
To explain what this means in simple terms: Consider this being the same as Ubuntu, where you can perfectly fine make your own distro based on Ubuntu, you can even re-use code from Ubuntu for your own projects etc, but you are not allowed to for example release your “own Ubuntu” (with an equal name or a name implying it is part of the official/original brand/product). The same applies to the open source projects, parts, applications etc of System166.
This for example means you can use the graphical user elements (often known as widgets), style etc of System166 (where the license of such elements allows it of course!) to for example create your own application like a Notepad for example for System166. But you are then for example not allowed to then ‘brand it’ as “System166 – Notepad” (Which would imply it’s part of the official System166 package/distro etc). “Notepad for System166“, but let’s face it: That’s not really an cool name huh😉? Just create your own application/game name and if you like mention in the about section it’s designed for System166 for example😊.
Accepted use and/or mentioning of System166 are of course for example: “Notepad, Designed for System166“, “Compatible with System166” or something like: “Based on System166” is also perfectly fine (appreciated even). However, it is never allowed to imply endorsement, being part of the main project or to use the official branding without explicit written permission.
SystemR36

SystemR36 (often shown with the word System in white and R36 in green) is the project/brand-name of my distro for R36S and R36H units. SystemR36 differs from most other “Retro Distro’s” because it’s completely tailored specifically to the R36S/H units instead of ‘just another system it runs on’.
SystemR36 (as most can most likely already imply) is basically a ‘daughter system’ of System166, with the primary difference that the main focus of SystemR36 is retro gaming/handheld use.
SystemR36 is fully optimized for R36 units, and offers much much more flexibility and customization for both the end-user as well as for developers. It is however in many aspects compatible with System166 and can integrate with the Home Control system very nicely. However these System166 features of SystemR36 are either disabled by default or will even have to be installed manually by the user. The reason for this is that I suspect that most users will use SystemR36 primarily to get a more tailored OS and the extra features it offers for their R36 than that they are interested in the System166 parts/integration of it. To prevent delivering ‘bloat-ware’, I decided to either disable or even completely exclude many of those System166 functions, but both systems do offer great cross compatibility options.
The same trademark (and logo) use as described above for System166 apply equally to SystemR36.
Small side note: The XNL Future Technologies is an official registered (®) trademark, but I personally don’t see any need to clarify that one with high detail here (basically wasting your time explaining what that logo is😉) You’re on my platform, it’s at the top of the website and seen in almost any documentation. It’s the main brand/logo. Simple as that. And like with any logo: Don’t use it without permission, don’t imply endorsement with it, etc.
But some projects or products have two series logo’s on them, why?
This is because some projects or products can actually be ‘part of both series’ due to meeting the criteria we’ve set (internally), and thus this would mean that they could indeed belong to one or more project series/product lines at the same time (you could consider these as ‘cross-over’ series).
Important Copyright and trademark note
These project series (or product line) logos are copyright protected and are (official) trademarks of XNL Future Technologies. It is not allowed to just “slap” these logo’s (or any other official XNL Future Technologies logo for that matter) onto your own projects or products, except when you are of course using a board of us which already has one or more of our logo’s (originally) on it.
